Ulster Way and other walks

The Ulster Way’ is close to the hearts of most ramblers and walkers in the North of Ireland . The route has been revised and has been divided into Quality and Link sections. Visit walkni.com and see the section on The Revised Ulster Way

UFRC is represented on the Ulster Way Advisory Committee.  Our website will periodically highlight interesting sections of the revised Ulster Way with photographs.

A long distance walk in Ulster was Wilfred Capper's dream for many years .  In the early nineteen seventies the idea was promoted and the Sports Council for Northern Ireland showed great interest in the mid seventies .  After a series of meetings,  Wilfred Capper (then retired)  was asked to be Field Officer for a few months .  The few months became about fourteen years and much of the graft was done by Wilfred .  He walked the countryside , checked  routes , obtained  access from  farmers and created publicity for the Ulster Way . Wilfred Capper continued walking until almost 90 .  He fell , broke his pelvis and required nursing care .   He died in 1998 at the age of 93

Other walks

CAAN's excellent website  walkni.com   indicates most of the Waymarked Ways in Ulster  .  There are also many excellent walks which are unofficial in the sense that they are not waymarked, both in Ulster and Donegal . Some of these will be placed on UFRC web site ,none are difficult ,  but remember you do these walks at your own risk .
