UFRC Club Members from Armagh Rambling Club spruced up on their map reading and navigation skills during a UFRC/Walking In Your Community Introduction to Navigation training day in Gosford Forest Park, Co. Armagh on Saturday 30th January 2015.
During the day they looked further into map reading, compass work, contours, timing and pacing, route planning and dealing with emergency incidents.
Following the training UFRC & Walking In Your Community Coordinator, Claire Overend commented. ” A great days training was held with the walking groups and rambling clubs from Armagh. It was a great starting point for some attendees and a gentle reminder to others of the skills needed to navigate. The training will enable participants to practice basic skills with their groups and build confidence to lead walks or assist others within their clubs.”
Reflecting on the training Audrey Sherlock a member of Armagh Ramblers said “This is a very useful course, I will take a more ‘active’ role in navigating when out with my walking group, to build experience”.
