East Antrim Rambling Club Invitation Walk

Posted on August 1st, 2017 · Posted in Events

Join East Antrim Rambling Club and experience the delights of Glenariff- the Queen of the Glens. A fantastic opportunity to experience the social benefits of walking with a club.

Date: Sun 1st Oct 2017
Time:  10:30am- 3pm (time will depend on the length of picnic and the weather)
Location: Glenariff Forest Park, Co. Antrim. Starting and finishing in Main Car Park (please note there is a parking charge-see below re interim meeting point)
Length of Walk: The total walk is 10km
Number of Spaces: Spaces limited to 10 people and expected to fill up fast. Places should be reserved no later than Friday 15th September.

Starting at the car park the group will loop through some well-known and lesser known paths taking in a number of viewpoints for photographs. The group will then stop for a picnic lunch at a beauty spot. Very steep climbs will be avoided as this is an introduction to walking with the club, however, some paths might be a little rough and steep stone steps are unavoidable on the Waterfall Walk section.

This event is part of the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs (UFRC) Open Weekend.

There will be an interim meeting point at Sandyknowes Roundabout in Newtownabbey- hard shoulder on A6 (BT36 4RF) Meeting at 9:30am. Car sharing can be arranged here in order to reduce the number of cars needing to use the car park at Glenariff.

What to bring: Clothes should be chosen wisely depending mostly on the weather forecast. Waterproofs, good comfortable walking boots and a backpack with lunch and water are essential. A walking pole would be useful for some sections although it is not essential.
Suitability: The walk is suitable for adults aged 18+ with a good level of personal fitness and an interest in seeing more of the “off road” countryside.
How to book: To book please send a message to the club facebook page: http://bit.ly/2uQVkTH and someone will be in touch. Or alternatively contact the club secretary Jennifer Austin, phone:  or email: . Spaces are limited to 10 people and so will be allocated on a first come first served basis. A reserve list will be made once the limit is reached.
