On Saturday, 4th October 2014 the UFRC will again be joining forces with Tollymore NOC to run two courses that we think should be of interest to your Club and its members.
Mountain Navigation – to cater for a range of walkers – from novices who want to be taught the basics of simple map and compass work to experienced walkers who wish to refresh their skills and even take them a bit further.
Group Management – this course will be of especial interest to members of your Club who are thinking of leading groups in the hills for the first time; or more experienced leaders who wish to develop their management/leadership skills. It will be a practical course which will include scenarios to help deal with a variety of situations.
What we would like your Club to do is spread the word about the courses to your members. Also, have a chat with them and ask if there are any particular aspects of mountain navigation or group management they would like included. Then, please get back to George Acheson (tel: or georgeacheson@hotmail .com) with suggestions by the end of April if possible. In this way we can tailor the courses to suit your Club’s needs.
Once we get feedback we will finalise the content of each course and send out more detailed information – so, keep a close eye on our website and watch out for an email from us in early May.
