THE Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust, in partnership with Ballymena Borough Council, has launched a new guide to Slemish and its wildlife and fauna.
Located within the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Slemish Mountain, dominates the landscape near Ballymena and comprises of a rich mosaic of upland habitats, containing a diverse variety of plant and animal species.
A new booklet and habitat and species identification chart will enable visitors to identify interesting plants and animals on the mountain. 
The booklet provides tips for appropriate use of the site, to ensure Slemish is kept in pristine condition for other visitors.
Maurice Turley, Biodiversity Officer for Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus Borough Councils, commented: “The mountain habitats like those found on Slemish are unique and rich in biodiversity. 
“Many rare and notable plants can be discovered on the mountain, as well as birds and insects adapted to mountainous environments. 
“This guide is a great resource to any visitors to Slemish as they will get an insight into the fascinating wildlife that inhabits the mountain.”
