UFRC Club Members spruced up on their map reading and navigation skills after attending the first UFRC/Walking In Your Community Introduction to Navigation training day at Castle Archdale, Co. Fermanagh on Saturday 19th September 2015.
During the day they looked further into map reading, compass work, contours, timing and pacing, route planning and dealing with emergency incidents.
Following the training UFRC & Walking In Your Community Coordinator, Claire Overend commented. ” A great days training was held with the walking groups and rambling clubs from Fermanagh. It was a great starting point for some attendees and a gentle reminder to others of the skills needed to navigate. The training will enable participants to practice basic skills with their groups and build confidence to lead walks or assist others within their clubs.”
Reflecting on the training Susan Henshall a member of Fermanagh Rambler’s said ‘ This course was very useful and enjoyable! The training was concise, easy to understand and extremely memorable. I enjoyed meeting other keen walkers from other clubs and the training materials were excellent…lunch was lovely too! I look putting this new skills into practice during our next walk with the club.”
